Subject : Postponement of implementation of SEZ Rules & Regulations till 1-4-04

Department of Revenue has issued Customs Notification Nos. 25, 26, 27 & 28/2004-Customs(NT), 45, 46 and 47/2004-Customs, all dated 28-2-2004 and Central Excise Notification Nos. 17 and 6/2004-Central Excise, both dated 28-2-2004, wherein the date for implementation of SEZ Rules & Regulations has been postponed from 1st March, 2004 to 1st April, 2004. This is for your information please.

EPCES had sought comments from various zones, on unified SEZ Rules and Regulations vide Customs notification Nos. 52/2003 and 53/2003 both dated 22nd July 2003. These comments have been compiled and have already been submitted to Ministry of Commerce. During March 2004, discussions are likely to be held between Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, Development Commissioners and EPCES and its representatives so that these Rules & Regulations are finalized this month.
