Sub: Over loading of railway wagons - reg.

We have received a communication from Export Commissioner, DGFT, Ministry of Commerce informing that Ministry of Railway has recently launched an intensive drive to check the malpractice of over loading of wagons. The drive reveals that many rail users have been carrying more than the declared weight of cargo leading to leakage of revenue as well as possibilities of damage to rolling stock.

As per the communication, the highest incidence of over loading was detected in the case of commodities like coal, iron ore, limestone, manganese ore, cement, bauxite, sponge iron etc.

Ministry of Commerce has requested that the concern of the railways may be brought to the notice of all our members.

I, therefore, request you to cooperate with railways to ensure that under weighment and over loading is totally avoided. You all will appreciate that efficiency of railway infrastructure directly contributes to the efficiency of foreign trade in the country and is to our benefit.
