DGFT NSuggestions for the Budget 2006-07 regarding changes in direct and indirect taxes


We have received letter No. F.No. 334/10/2005-TRU dated 8-9-05 from Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance (copy enclosed), inviting suggestions for changes in the duty structure on both direct and indirect taxes for consideration for the Budget 2006-07. Ministry of Finance has stated that suggestions and the views should be supplemented by relevant statistical information about production, prices, revenue implication of the changes suggested etc.

Hence I request you to send your suggestions relating to the Budget for both direct and indirect taxes including on the matters relating to CBDT, CBEC and Service Tax immediately. Suggestions should be sent to us latest by 15-10-05 so that we could send these suggestions well in time to Ministry of Finance. Based on your suggestions we would like to take an opportunity of having interaction with Revenue Secretary, Ministry of Finance. This should be given top priority.

Subject : Suggestions from the Industry and Trade Associations for Budget 2006-07 – regarding changes in direct and indirect taxes

 

Sir/Madam,

In the context of formulating the proposals for the Union Budget of 2006-07, the Ministry of Finance would like to be benefited by the suggestions and views of your Association. You may like to send your suggestions for changes in the duty structure on both direct and indirect taxes giving economic justification for the same.

Yours suggestions and views may be supplemented by relevant statistical information about production, prices, revenue implication of the changes suggested, etc. This year, we are seeking your views somewhat early, but this will give us the requisite time to carefully examine the suggestions, and to seek further details, if needed, well in time. It would be appreciated if your views and suggestions are made available to us by the 31st October, 2005.

Suggestions on direct taxes may be sent to Ms. Anita Kapur/Shri Arbind Modi, Joint Secretary, Tax Policy and Legislation (TPL) of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Suggestions relating to customs, excise and service tax may be sent to Shri Gautam Ray/ R. Sekar, Joint Secretary (TRU).

In case you desire, you may also make a presentation before the Secretary (Revenue) highlighting the salient features of your proposals. These meetings are proposed to be held in the month of November, 2005. While sending your suggestions, you may kindly indicate whether you would like to avail of this opportunity, and the name of person who can be contacted for fixing the time and date of the meetings.
